My name is Max. I came to the valley in February 2020 to get right and decided it was home. I’m from Milwaukee, Wisconsin so I’m big happy to step out into 80 degrees and sunshine in January. It’s unreal. Lighthouse has been my first and only experience working in treatment. It kind of just happened to be the first opportunity when i graduated from the program, through a good friend of mine. If I could sum up what it’s been like to work in treatment over the last 6 months, I would say it has been an opportunity as much as a job. Being cut from the same cloth as our clients in terms of having my own experience with dependency; we have an obligation to them as well as ourselves to demonstrate good character.

It’s like if we don’t take recovery seriously, they never will. So it’s a mutual opportunity to become a better person. That’s important for me. Also I love my co-workers. We are like family, and we have each other’s backs. I love what i do, even during the difficult times at the house. The reward outshines the rest. Recovery for me has been a long road just as it has for all of us. So I’m very grateful to be in a position to help others along side my sober friends.
